Within minutes those peers drop down to 1 or 0 and it stays that way. The magnet file came up and the torrent started downloading from 5-6 peers. But here's where weirdness happens "working right" doesn't always last very long.įor example: I was downloading a movie that TPB said had about 75 seeders. I've just committed a crime and life goes on. Transmission (my client of choice) launches, the download happens. I call up Pirate Bay or whatever, find what I'm looking for, and grab the torrent file or magnet link. When everything is "working right" I launch the app and establish a quick-connection to a P2P server, which more often than not connects me to somewhere in New York (but every once in awhile, Canada). Now that we've moved past that, here's what happens. I've been working with the NordVPN support people for about two months and we haven't gotten a consistent solution so now I'm pretty much open to suggestions. What I'm about to describe also happens on two other Macs and one Windows PC on my same home network. Running an iMac on High Sierra (10.13) and the OpenVPN client (not the App Store client). I use Mac 10.12.6 built in LT2P and Tunnelblick for VPN connection and transmission 2.9.Verizon FiOS, central NJ. Maybe this is not a big deal (or not a priority for VPN providers?), I can still connect to peers, but as passive. You might have a provider that does this! I am sending a request to my VPN provider to determine if they have another open port, or request to open one. Routing table? I could use someone to point me in the right direction - power users out there? On MacOS and other UNIX systems, ports below 1024 are not allowed. Got error "couldn't bind port to 443 on 10.10.10.2: permissions denied". Used this for peer port listening (random and UPnP off) and green light! Confirmed with that indeed open.īut. I discovered that my service had port 443 open (the only one). I found out that most VPN services close ports with firewall. My existing port forward scheme for en0 from router did not work for L2TP & utun. I also took the plunge with a VPN service as well - becoming cost effective and necessary! 13:55:37 +0000 port-forwarding.c:92 Port Forwarding: State changed from "Starting" to "?" Natpmp returned -7 (the gateway does not support nat-pmp) errno is 61 (Connection refused) 13:55:37 +0000 natpmp.c:75 Port Forwarding (NAT-PMP): readnatpmpresponseorretry failed. 13:55:29 +0000 port-forwarding.c:92 Port Forwarding: State changed from "Not forwarded" to "Starting" 13:55:29 +0000 upnp.c:242 Port Forwarding (UPnP): If your router supports UPnP, please make sure UPnP is enabled! 13:55:29 +0000 upnp.c:239 Port Forwarding (UPnP): UPNP_GetValidIGD failed (errno 0 - Undefined error: 0) 13:55:29 +0000 natpmp.c:70 Port Forwarding (NAT-PMP): sendpublicaddressrequest succeeded (2) 13:55:29 +0000 natpmp.c:70 Port Forwarding (NAT-PMP): initnatpmp succeeded (0) UPnP is enabled properly on router (Huawei E5172).įunny fact: using qbittorrent and everything works fine, on or off VPN. I have made everything related to opening the ports, but the problem continues. When I turn on VPN, the port is automatically closed. The thing is: when I'm not connected to my VPN provider (NordVPN), Transmission works pretty fine using any port (in the range recommended). I'm using Transmission 2.94 on MacOS High Sierra.
